[00:00:04] Speaker A: Yo, it's effective immediately. I'm DJ Head. [00:00:06] Speaker B: What up, Hip Hop Nation? It's your favorite homegirl, Gina Views. [00:00:08] Speaker A: Special guest in the building. All the way from the other side, man. Thank you for coming through. Key Glock, yo, is here hanging out with us. [00:00:16] Speaker C: For sure. For sure. What's up with it, man? [00:00:18] Speaker A: Appreciate you pulling up, you know what I'm saying? I know you a busy man for sure, that you on the road, you got album, you got. You got a whole bunch of shit going on. But I would be crazy if I didn't give you your props, because obviously Glocavelli is like, you know, people know what that is, right? I want to know first and foremost from your perspective. Because people be trying to stay away from shit like that. Cause they feel like they can't live up to it. So what gave you the confidence to, like, dive fully into that? I know people have called you that, but I'm just saying. What gave you the confidence to just own that shit, really? [00:00:57] Speaker C: Just. [00:01:00] Speaker C: I'm just super. I'm just super confident in myself, and I know what I'm capable of. So I don't be worried about, like, nobody else opinion. Like, I know me, so. And I just. I just show that through the music, basically. [00:01:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:14] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:01:15] Speaker A: Is there a point where you second guess, like. Cause you know how people, like, won't fuck with certain samples? They won't, like, you do both. You fuck with the title and the sample. Has there ever been a point? Has there ever been one where you was like, nah, I'm not gonna touch that one. [00:01:35] Speaker C: I can't think of it right off. But, yeah, it done a few of them numerous times. Yeah, it's certain beats with certain samples on it. I be like, nah, I just know for a fact they ain't clearing that. I don't even bother. [00:01:47] Speaker B: Yeah, you got Glockavelli, you got Glock Cloma, you got Glock Bomb. Hear me out, Glocktober. [00:01:56] Speaker C: This what we in right now. [00:01:57] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. [00:01:58] Speaker C: That's what we in right now. [00:01:59] Speaker B: You already using that, right? [00:02:01] Speaker C: Nah, you know, you right. You on to something. [00:02:04] Speaker B: We gonna use that shit even so. She ready. We've been spinning that. That's in our rotation. I freaking love it. Obviously, the classic sample. But even a music video, it's a concept. You got Tia Camp, you got Tasha Smith, but then it's the whole way that you pull up to her house, you go pick her up, you knock on the door, you speak to the mom for sure. How hands. Oh, and the young lady from Love Island. How hands on are you with the creative process for your music videos? Cause they all so cinematic. [00:02:37] Speaker C: Like, out of. [00:02:41] Speaker C: 10 videos that I done shot recently. [00:02:46] Speaker C: Seven out of 10. I'm in, like, more control of, like, hands on. [00:02:50] Speaker A: Okay. [00:02:51] Speaker B: And also, I respect the good rollout. So y' all had me going. I thought it was some tea. [00:02:58] Speaker B: I'm thinking y' all really dating the video, though that did start circulating social media. Did y' all really get caught slipping, or was that all part of the rollout for people to think that it was something going on? [00:03:10] Speaker C: She said we was working. We was just working. [00:03:13] Speaker B: Okay. [00:03:14] Speaker A: It's all content. [00:03:14] Speaker B: It's all part of the rollout. [00:03:17] Speaker B: It's all content. [00:03:18] Speaker C: All content. [00:03:21] Speaker B: I like that, though. I respect the rollout. [00:03:23] Speaker C: No, for sure. [00:03:25] Speaker A: What? [00:03:26] Speaker B: Go ahead. I'm sorry. [00:03:27] Speaker A: Go ahead. No, my question about it would be about the album links, because they progressively got longer over time. Was that intentional? Because you went from. I think it was about 15. Then you had 16, I think, on the Yellow tape, I think it was like. I don't remember, but it went like you was doing, like, 14 songs. Then you went to 16 songs. Now we had 23 goddamn songs, the last two projects. So what's that about? [00:03:53] Speaker C: There's something me and my team discuss. Like, me, I don't care to have 20, 23 songs. [00:04:01] Speaker A: Me either. [00:04:02] Speaker C: You know what I'm saying? Cause it's like, my shit's so solid, and it's quality over quantity. So. [00:04:11] Speaker C: I just let them do they thing, man. I was like, shit, I got enough of it, huh? Do what you want. [00:04:15] Speaker A: Do what you want with it. Yeah. Did you ever. So did you have to push back on more than 20? Was it 22 songs? Or, like, was it supposed to be more than that? And you like, okay, no, that's enough. [00:04:26] Speaker C: Yeah, I feel like it was enough. I ain't gonna let it go overboard now. [00:04:31] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. What's too many songs on the album for me? For you? Like, when you listening to a classic album or you listen to some shit and you like, this is the number where it shouldn't go over. [00:04:43] Speaker C: It's hard to say. Cause on Yellow Tape 2, when I first dropped it, it was 20 songs. When I did the looks, I added 10 more, and it was like, 30 damn songs. [00:04:52] Speaker A: Correct. [00:04:53] Speaker C: But like, me now, it's like, I don't gotta do that no more. I ain't have to do it then. It's just. Just satisfying the fans, basically. Yeah. That's all. [00:05:03] Speaker B: Is this, like, some west coast influence? I'M looking at your neck, I see the nwa, and then you got the whole Glock of Ellie. Is that like, are you influenced by the west coast any? [00:05:14] Speaker C: I fuck with the West Coast. I ain't influenced, though. I'm influenced by the South. Like, yeah, the south definitely in me. [00:05:21] Speaker A: Well, I heard a couple of references. Like, it's like three, four songs on the album. You mentioned yg, you mentioned Snoop, then you on another song. I love that you mentioned. Damn, I forgot the. I forgot the bar, bro. It's been a minute, but it's like, three different songs where you do, like, reference our shit out here. [00:05:39] Speaker C: Oh, for sure. [00:05:40] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:40] Speaker C: Yeah, for sure. [00:05:42] Speaker A: So, like, have you always gotten, like, the. The reception that you was looking for from when you come out here? And, like, people fuck with my homies, fuck with you, but I don't know what your experience is? [00:05:52] Speaker C: Nah, I ain't gonna lie. See, it's like, by me being from the south. [00:05:57] Speaker C: And, like, when I go out west or go to the east coast, it's like, I don't expect the reactions and love that I begin. Because, like, New York got his own sound. Cali got his own sound. Like, you got artists in Cali that just got solely rich as hell turned up in Cali without even having to leave the state of Cali. You get what I'm saying? So it's like, just by me being from the south to jump from coast to coast and still, you know what I'm saying? Be involved. Like, shit, just let me know I do something right. [00:06:32] Speaker B: People from the south always say that our food is bad. [00:06:35] Speaker A: What you think? [00:06:36] Speaker C: It depends on where you go, what. [00:06:37] Speaker B: You eat when you come out here. [00:06:39] Speaker C: I eat Annie's. Annie. So what else? [00:06:42] Speaker A: I eat. [00:06:46] Speaker C: I ain't gonna lie. The last three, four months I've been coming here, this is all I've been eating. [00:06:50] Speaker B: Annie's. I ain't even had Annie's yet. [00:06:53] Speaker C: I gotta put y' all put us on some. [00:06:56] Speaker B: You putting on some west coast shit. [00:06:58] Speaker C: For real. I got you. I got you. [00:06:59] Speaker B: Have you been to marathon yet? [00:07:00] Speaker C: Yeah, I've been to Marathon. Okay. [00:07:02] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, I watched a couple of your interviews and relationships came up, and you was talking about how you. Not really. You don't care too much right now. Like, that's not your focus. Have you ever been in love? [00:07:16] Speaker C: I don't know. Have. [00:07:17] Speaker A: I don't feel bad, bro. I don't feel bad. [00:07:20] Speaker B: I've never been in love. That's what made me. When I was watching, I'm like, damn, this. [00:07:23] Speaker C: He sound like me. I think I am. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:07:27] Speaker B: You don't know if you're. [00:07:27] Speaker C: Just say yeah to keep, you know. [00:07:30] Speaker B: Okay. [00:07:30] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:07:30] Speaker B: For the content. [00:07:31] Speaker A: Just to keep the peace. [00:07:33] Speaker C: Hey, however you want to say it. Just to keep the peace. [00:07:37] Speaker C: Man. [00:07:38] Speaker A: There's a. On Glocavelli there, I think. So I got like three songs. She likes. She ready. [00:07:48] Speaker A: I think if I had to pick like my two, it would be like either. Okay. It's a toss up between Blue Devil, Make A Way. I mean, Made Away. And then. [00:07:59] Speaker A: I think it was Paper Cuts. Now, do you have a song on the album that you would take off. [00:08:09] Speaker A: If you had to take one song off? I just hope you don't pick mine, but. [00:08:22] Speaker C: Nah, I don't really. I don't think I take nothing off. [00:08:24] Speaker A: You take nothing off. Is there a song? [00:08:26] Speaker C: Because this the reason they on there. I wouldn't. I'm confident in them. [00:08:29] Speaker A: Okay. [00:08:30] Speaker C: And it's like my circle love it. Like, I let them pick the songs more than me. I confirm, but I let them pick them. [00:08:38] Speaker A: So my question is, when you go in to make an album, do you already decide what the concept of the album is before you make the records? Or you just make a bunch of songs and then figure out what you wanna call the album and how you wanna market it? [00:08:51] Speaker C: Ain't gonna lie, it kinda go both ways. Cause like on every tape I drop, I at least have one or two songs on there that be two, three years old. But you'll never know. Like, you wouldn't even expect it. Like Blue Devil, I recorded this shit in 2023. [00:09:08] Speaker A: See, I respect that. Cause a lot of artists be like that shit old, but ain't nobody heard it. [00:09:14] Speaker C: But if it don't get old to me, and I listen to it all the time, I know how it's gonna make everybody else feel. [00:09:20] Speaker B: With you. Not ever like doing features on your albums. Have you ever heard one of your songs? You was like, dang, this person would sound good on there. [00:09:28] Speaker C: Yeah, for sure. [00:09:29] Speaker B: Who is somebody that if you ever like, was to bring any features on the albums? Like, who are some people that you would work with? [00:09:42] Speaker C: It depend on. [00:09:45] Speaker C: How this album is sounding. Like he said, got you. I don't know. I can't just. [00:09:51] Speaker C: Pick no names out right now. [00:09:53] Speaker B: Okay. [00:09:53] Speaker A: Okay. You don't also, like, give a lot of features? Is there a reason? [00:10:01] Speaker C: It is, but it not. It's like I do features all the time, but it's like, I don't know why, but only for some reason, only Some of them get used. [00:10:11] Speaker A: So it's like, oh, niggas don't be using the record. [00:10:13] Speaker C: The verse. Yeah, yeah, basically. Yeah. So it's like, why the fuck you even ask? [00:10:19] Speaker B: I feel that that's. That Leo. [00:10:21] Speaker C: I really don't fuck you up. I already don't fuck you up. [00:10:23] Speaker A: Cause it's like. It's like wasted work. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Why you wasting my time? [00:10:25] Speaker C: It ain't wasted work, but it's like, like, damn, I don't know what's up. [00:10:30] Speaker B: I could have said that on something else. [00:10:33] Speaker C: I could have. [00:10:35] Speaker A: You ever used a verse that somebody didn't put out? [00:10:38] Speaker C: Nah, nah. [00:10:39] Speaker A: So once it's gone, you just. [00:10:40] Speaker C: Yeah, I ain't gonna lie. I record so much. I ain't running out. Think of something else. [00:10:48] Speaker A: And this project, to me, for. To me sound like more soulful. Was that intentional? [00:10:55] Speaker C: Yeah, for sure. [00:10:56] Speaker A: Okay, what was the. [00:10:57] Speaker B: More mature than what you typically do. [00:10:59] Speaker C: Exactly. I just wanted to show people that I wouldn't just steal Young Glock, baby Glock. That's all. Yeah. [00:11:06] Speaker A: Like growing up a little bit. [00:11:08] Speaker C: Yeah, for sure. [00:11:09] Speaker A: Okay. [00:11:09] Speaker B: I know I already done. I'm glazing, she ready. [00:11:12] Speaker C: But I love that song straight up. [00:11:13] Speaker B: When you heard the, like, how did the process of it come about? Did you ask them to make the. Make the beat or did you know what you wanted to do with it? Did it come like that to you? [00:11:22] Speaker C: Nah, when I heard the beat, that was actually my first time hearing the song. Period. Like the sample period. [00:11:28] Speaker A: What? [00:11:29] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:11:29] Speaker B: Oh, that's. And then the way you flipped it is crazy, though. [00:11:33] Speaker C: It's like when I heard just like, I can hear the first five to 10 seconds of a beat, and I know what type of song it'll be. Okay. So it's like, I know I don't make that type of music anyway. So I was like, this shit's so hard. I know what I can do with it. So I just went in the booth and this shit just came out. [00:11:55] Speaker B: I thought it was amazing how you, like, you used a sample within the lyrics. Like, I just got a text that she ready. I love how you did that. Because a lot of the new artists, they not doing a good job of flipping classics. [00:12:10] Speaker B: Nah, you did great. [00:12:13] Speaker A: Did you know how big let's Go was gonna be? [00:12:16] Speaker C: Yeah, I definitely. [00:12:18] Speaker A: As soon as you recorded? [00:12:19] Speaker C: Yeah, while I was recording. [00:12:20] Speaker A: While you were recording it? [00:12:21] Speaker C: While I was recording it, yeah. [00:12:23] Speaker A: What'd you. What did. Like, what was the permanent like, what was the thought on that? [00:12:26] Speaker C: I was like, this shit a anthem. Like, this Shit. Like a warmup. You know what I'm saying? So it's like. [00:12:34] Speaker C: I knew what type of lanes it was going to reach or. Or reach out to. So, like sports events, just anything comp. Competitive. It's like they going. They going to play this song. It's high energy, you know what I'm saying? Like, pump you up. Like gym music like that. [00:12:53] Speaker B: It definitely gives stadium vibes. [00:12:55] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:12:55] Speaker B: Touchdown. [00:12:56] Speaker C: For sure. [00:12:58] Speaker B: What have you learned so far from fatherhood? [00:13:03] Speaker C: A lot. A lot, a lot, a lot. [00:13:08] Speaker A: Like what. [00:13:10] Speaker C: I'm trying to see what's my favorite thing I learned. Okay. [00:13:16] Speaker B: Or how has it changed you? [00:13:20] Speaker C: How has it changed me? It softened me up, girl. Yeah. [00:13:26] Speaker B: Oh, your girl dad soften me up. [00:13:28] Speaker C: Yeah, for sure, for sure. Only when it come to her, though. [00:13:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:32] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:13:33] Speaker A: I'm scared of that. [00:13:34] Speaker C: Why? [00:13:34] Speaker A: Just. Cause it's like, bro, like, I'm not trying to be softened up. You know what I'm saying? [00:13:38] Speaker C: It's your daughter. You need a kid. [00:13:39] Speaker A: I need a kid. You need a kid. Don't put no baby on me. [00:13:42] Speaker C: They told me, and it happened. [00:13:45] Speaker B: Shit. [00:13:45] Speaker C: They told me. [00:13:46] Speaker A: Okay, so let me ask you this then. Cause I remember talking to Nipsey about this, and he said when he became a father, it made him take his music way more serious. He became like, he don't. Like, basically, he don't want to leave the house for no bullshit. It's like, if I'm leaving the house, I'm going to get a bag, I'm going to do a verse, going to the studio, I'm going to do a show. Has it altered the way you think about the way you move outside? [00:14:10] Speaker C: Nah, I still gotta think the same way. Like, as if she wasn't born or whatever. You know what I'm saying? Because it's like. [00:14:21] Speaker C: I'm still the same person. I still gotta take care of everybody. I still gotta go get the money, I still gotta pay the bills, like, you know what I'm saying? So it's like, it's me. Everything be left up to me. Anyway. [00:14:33] Speaker A: I remember you mentioned that on the album, too, how you take care of people. And, like, you have to take care of. Like, you basically take care of everybody. Like, do you feel like. I don't wanna say. Is it unfair, but has that been the case always for you? Like, even as a. Nah, it's just recently. [00:14:51] Speaker A: Since. [00:14:53] Speaker C: Since I got financially stable then. [00:14:56] Speaker A: But. Dude, but then the expectation. How do you deal with people expecting shit? [00:15:01] Speaker C: Shit, I let them deal with it. They don't bother me. [00:15:06] Speaker C: Bother me. You expect all you want. [00:15:08] Speaker A: What's the wildest shit? Somebody done ask you for, like a close, like a family member, a relative, or like a friend or not. No random person dming you, but like somebody you know. [00:15:23] Speaker C: Ten thousand. [00:15:24] Speaker A: Ten. Just. Hey, can I get ten grand? Just. [00:15:27] Speaker C: It's somebody I went to school with. Like, we ain't even. Like, we cool, like we know each other, but like, bro, we ain't like. [00:15:33] Speaker A: We didn't even do nothing. [00:15:35] Speaker B: No business plan or nothing. [00:15:37] Speaker C: Can I get nothing on nothing, with nothing about nothing. So he gets nothing. I don't even mean no harm, but it's like, for what? [00:15:45] Speaker A: 10,000? [00:15:45] Speaker B: What you say back? [00:15:48] Speaker C: Ignore it. It's just better to not say nothing. [00:15:51] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:15:53] Speaker A: Do you notice that a difference in. I don't want to say, like, I was having a conversation with one of the homies and he was like, he has a parent that went to jail. [00:16:02] Speaker C: Right. [00:16:02] Speaker A: Do you as a young person, do you feel like that influences you as an adult? [00:16:07] Speaker C: Yeah, that's why I'm here right now. Really? [00:16:10] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:10] Speaker C: My mom went to jail when I was. [00:16:13] Speaker A: It was like seven or 16 months. Yeah, 16 months. [00:16:17] Speaker B: Serious? [00:16:18] Speaker C: Yeah, 15. 15 months. [00:16:19] Speaker A: I thought it was right after you. [00:16:20] Speaker C: Were born, like 15 months. She didn't get out until my senior year of high school. [00:16:27] Speaker A: Did that. How do you feel like, I mean, how do you feel like that kind of crafted who you are today? [00:16:34] Speaker C: Like, I grew up in south Memphis with my grandma. Like, I ain't had my father in the house, so it's like the streets and my grandma raised me understood. So it's like I just had a lot of determination and motivation from me seeing, like. [00:16:55] Speaker C: Kids with their moms at our football game, basketball games, like, shit like that, it put a fuel in me. Not a bad feel, but a good feel like, man, I gotta do this, I gotta do this, I gotta do this. I gotta make sure this happened. And I just manifested all this shit until it just hit. [00:17:12] Speaker A: What was the determining factor to make you pivot from being outside to going full on with the music? Like, I'm gonna just be full time artist. What was that determining.
