[00:00:04] Speaker A: Welcome back to effective immediately. I'm DJ Hebb. [00:00:06] Speaker B: What up, world? [00:00:07] Speaker C: It's your favorite homegirl, gene of youth. [00:00:08] Speaker A: Now, real quickly, you know, there was a guy outside. He was hanging out outside rapping, trying to get a deal in front of the radio station, old school. And I happen to remember that him and Gina views had a relationship online. My guy reason is here. Carson's finest. [00:00:30] Speaker B: What's up, man? [00:00:32] Speaker A: Welcome to effective immediate, man. [00:00:33] Speaker B: That's a. That's a great intro. I appreciate the laugh. Yeah. Appreciate the love and care in that intro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you. [00:00:41] Speaker A: You got a lot going on. [00:00:42] Speaker B: I do. [00:00:42] Speaker A: You know, I'm not one of them. [00:00:44] Speaker B: Yeah, Gina's not. [00:00:46] Speaker A: You have a lot going on. [00:00:47] Speaker B: Gina's not. Me and Gina got a to be contract coming to be contract. We don't make it like a whole, like. [00:00:54] Speaker A: Like bad rappers club or something. [00:00:56] Speaker B: Not bad rappers club. We're gonna make it like a. Like a docuseries. Like. Yeah, they fuck with it. Yeah, the skits and whatnot. [00:01:09] Speaker A: So I'm not really. [00:01:10] Speaker B: I'm gonna just give, you know, dance head. [00:01:12] Speaker A: I'm just asking for playing with me. [00:01:18] Speaker B: People. People really fuck with the skits. And, like, I feel like it's something that, like, I just be wanting to have fun with shit like that. And at some point, I want to get into acting. So that's like, an easy way to, like, be able to, like, build. [00:01:27] Speaker A: I think you'll be dope as an actor. [00:01:29] Speaker B: Yeah, I think I'd be dope. [00:01:30] Speaker C: Even the directing. [00:01:31] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:32] Speaker B: That shit was fun. Yeah. [00:01:33] Speaker A: Now, you. You just recently made a huge announcement. Huge career shift for you. [00:01:38] Speaker B: Yes. [00:01:39] Speaker A: You know what I'm saying? Congratulations. [00:01:41] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:01:41] Speaker A: Cause I know you've been happy about it. Gina views. Do you want to, like, speak on pieces? [00:01:46] Speaker C: AI letter. [00:01:48] Speaker A: So you posted a letter? [00:01:49] Speaker B: Yes, I posted a letter that I wrote. [00:01:51] Speaker A: That you wrote. I wrote. Ghost wrote show up. [00:01:53] Speaker B: Nobody. Ghost wrote nothing. [00:01:55] Speaker A: Cause, you know, it's a lot of that going on. [00:01:56] Speaker B: Yeah, I do know it's a lot of that going on. You remind us every week that it's a lot of that going on. [00:02:01] Speaker A: It's a lot of that going on. So Gina doesn't think you wrote. [00:02:03] Speaker B: I wrote it in traffic. I got the paperwork and it was signed, and then I just started putting it. Cause I knew I wanted to do. I knew I didn't want to get in the camera and talk. That's just weird. It would have felt awkward. So I just started writing while I was in traffic. [00:02:16] Speaker A: Okay. [00:02:17] Speaker B: Yeah, I did have somebody, like, look over it to make sure I didn't. [00:02:20] Speaker C: AI look over it. [00:02:21] Speaker B: Not AI look over. [00:02:24] Speaker A: Okay, so. But just in all serious, though, it was your decision that you wanted to make sure that you got the freedom papers. You can go and be independent now. We all know you signed the TDE. I know you can't really go into details and speak about a lot of different things, but what can you talk about as far as your transition? [00:02:43] Speaker B: I'm just excited. Like, I've had a lot of ideas and things that I've wanted to do. Projects, different creative ideas, things to help up and coming artists, because a lot of people know that that's a passion of mine, and it's just so many things that I've been wanting to do that I haven't necessarily been able to do, given the situation. And I just want to sprint. Like, before I was signed, that's what I did. I was outside every single week. I was freestyles projects, release parties, merch, everything. I just want to get back on that. Like, I even see a lot of people asking where I'm going or signing. I don't know exactly what situation I'm gonna fall into, but I know I'm not falling into no situation that don't give me ultimate freedom. So if it's any situation that's not gonna give me ultimate freedom, I don't give a fuck what the bag is. I don't want it. [00:03:30] Speaker A: Define ultimate freedom. You talking about, like, being able to drop music, or you talking about, like. [00:03:35] Speaker B: I mean, being able to do everything, like, being able to drop music, being able to. If I wanna. If I see an artist that I really, really rock with, and I wanna do a whole project with that artist, right? Just cause I wanna do a project with that artiste, being able to do that. Being able to do the interviews that I wanna do, being able to shoot videos the way that I wanna shoot em and come up with creative ideas and execute them, like, anything that I wanna do, I'm just now, like, super appreciation of the word freedom. Like, being able to literally be creative, go execute it, put it out, give it to the world, move on to the next thing. [00:04:09] Speaker C: Okay, so when can we be expecting a project? [00:04:12] Speaker B: I can't give an exact date, but I'm, like, coming, like, very, very soon. Like, I'm literally, like, pause. With me and Gina, it gotta be a pause. We gotta pause everything now. But, yeah, I'm literally, like, putting the final touches on a project right now, and then I also have another project that's, like, probably 75% done that. I'm putting final touches on that one also. So I'm trying to. Yeah, I'm trying to drop two this year. [00:04:40] Speaker A: Nigga is sick. We halfway through the year. [00:04:42] Speaker B: I know. [00:04:43] Speaker A: Oh, you're not playing? [00:04:44] Speaker B: I'm not. No, bro. I have way too much music. [00:04:46] Speaker C: When are we going to get mixtape reason back? That's my favorite reason. [00:04:49] Speaker B: So that's actually what I want to do right after the second project. I want to like do a whole jack and for beats tape and just I don't give a fuck how I put it out. Like, it would be dope to do it in a different creative way than it's been done before. I've even thought about. I'm giving away a good idea right now, but fuck it. I got a lot of good ideas. I've even thought about creating like a new cause, you know, Datpiff is gone. So creating like a website that is called like datpiff.com but with three f's and then even put like the fake mixtape covers on the website. And then that's how you go and click the link to the jack and Papistape. [00:05:22] Speaker A: That's some super creative shit. And I don't know what you just said. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Have you ever been on daptiv.com? dot. [00:05:27] Speaker A: No, I understand. [00:05:28] Speaker B: But I'm just saying I make the website but the other. So my favorite classic mixtapes would be on that website, but they wouldn't actually be clickable. Cause I can't put the music on the website. But you would see the drought three. [00:05:39] Speaker C: You would see it's just another way, another content for overall. [00:05:42] Speaker B: Yeah, like it's just a nostalgia thing. You know what I mean? So the people that used to be on that piff, they would see it and then click and be like, oh shit, this look like deafpiv.com. like make literally like a clone of it almost. And then it'd be like new release reason, whatever the fuck I want to call it a Jack and Phoebe's tape and then go click it. [00:05:57] Speaker A: Now, in all fairness, though, I do want to say publicly, like, you are dope. [00:06:02] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:06:02] Speaker A: And, you know, I'm a fan and I think that. I think that everybody should be in control of what they want to do. You know what I'm saying? But also understanding the situations that they go, that they get themselves into. And so before you get up out of here, any like, advice that you would give to other artists because a lot of times artists get into situations and they don't fully understand the scope of what they're in. And it's like, if you sign a deal, bro, you're in this deal, finish the deal, don't complain, you know, honor your honor your agreement and stuff like that. So is there anything that you can offer in that perspective? [00:06:34] Speaker B: I don't want to necessarily say, like, definitely, I agree, like, understand, like, what you're getting yourself into. But my situation wasn't a situation where I didn't understand, like, I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. And, I mean, I talked about it on windows cry. You get what I'm saying? So I knew what I was getting myself into. For me, it's more just about. And this is on both sides. This is on the label side. And like you said, like, people don't always come to an agreement. People don't always see things the same way. And my only advice would be to. Is to just, like, stand on what you believe in. You know what I mean? Like, because, you know, any label is gonna stand on what they believe in. If they believe that this artist is gonna sell, they gonna push that artist. If they feel like, you know, this might not be as much of a priority, they not gonna do it, and they gonna stand on what they believe in. So stand on what you believe in also. And if you believe in your music and you want to walk a certain path, stand on that. And y'all can talk as men. Like, it ain't like it's no smoke or nothing like that. Like, y'all talk as men. Y'all figured it out, and then, you know, you go do what you want to do. But I believe in being happy first before anything else. [00:07:35] Speaker C: Are you on good terms with the label from. [00:07:37] Speaker B: From what I know, like, me and Moussa are good. I haven't talked to top in a minute, but, like, me and Moore good. I just talked to Musa last night. I don't. Yeah, I don't. Like. That's what I'm saying. I don't have no. It looked like it because it's like. [00:07:50] Speaker A: That'S what the Internet do. [00:07:51] Speaker B: And then it's got to, like, I had to kick up a little dust, like. But it ain't real. You know what I mean? Like, it's just. [00:07:56] Speaker C: Well, the Internet made a thing out of everything. [00:07:59] Speaker B: YouTube, they made a thing out of everything. And honestly, I fuck with it, because it's like, that is what this business is, is entertainment, you know what I mean? So I didn't feel no type of way about nothing that they was making a thing off of. You get what I'm saying? And I also knew that some of the things I said was gonna rub people the wrong way. But like I said, you gotta kick up a little bit of dust sometimes to try to get somewhere a little bit faster. [00:08:22] Speaker A: And then, okay, so my last guy, and we homies, so we talk offline all the time. I also want to know something from your perspective. In your situation with TD, not doing to blame you or anything. What do you think reason could have done better in that situation? [00:08:36] Speaker B: Oh, a bunch of shit. I could have been more present. Like, I could have put more effort into social media and the growth part of it. You get what I'm saying? I was very active on social media before I signed, and I kind of let the fact that I wasn't dropping music affect the fact that I wasn't being consistent on social media. No matter what somebody else does, you control what you can control, you know what I mean? So I could have did that more. I could have been more present in the art. And what I mean by that is I was always trying to figure out the formula of the music instead of just making the music that I wanted to make and then maybe spinning the block at the end and being like, okay, what records do we need for the business part of it? You know what I mean? I was always thinking about live shows, merch, playlisting. Yeah. As I was going, instead of being more present in the music. [00:09:25] Speaker A: Just art. [00:09:26] Speaker B: Exactly. And then last thing, I could have just been more honest upfront and not let things build up. That's something that's like an issue with me as a person. Like, I do that in all aspects of life. So friendships, relationships, anything, instead of just being more upfront and just talking about things, I let it build up. And then now I'm on back on Fig. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Like, this is great, though. We've been friends for a long time, I've seen the growth, and right now it sounds like a lot of self reflection. Are you in a therapy or anything? [00:09:57] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I've been in therapy for probably like a year and a half. Yeah, like a year and a half. So, yeah, just. It is growth. It's like you, like, when I signed there, I didn't know really who I was as a person. You know what I mean? I was still trying to figure it out. And then your whole life changed. It's this big platform, and it's one of the greatest, if not the greatest, hip hop label on the planet. So you feel the pressure of that. Like, I can't do nothing that'll fuck that up. You know what I'm saying? And so it's just a lot of that, you know what I mean? And then, and I had to just grow and figure out who I wanted to be. And that's ultimately kind of what led to the decision of, like, I don't think that this is my path anymore because once I grew and knew exactly what I wanted, it was like these two worlds don't. They can't really coexist. They can't really coexist. [00:10:39] Speaker A: At the same time, I respect the growth and I respect the reflect. I mean, me and you always have real honest conversations, like, I hold you accountable, like, and you always tell me, like, good looking out on that. So I appreciate that. Just as a man, you know what I'm saying? I mean, Gene, you won't give us a date, but I know we got a lot of stuff to look forward to. I know people gonna probably ask you, but what about some collaborations? Can you still get that done? Like, as far as, like, is anybody still on the label that you still have a relationship with that you might that we could see on the future project? [00:11:10] Speaker B: I mean, I got relationships with pretty much everybody that I've always had relationships with. I know that's a very vague answer, but it would really be on them and not me. And what I mean by that is that it's still a business and they're still. [00:11:24] Speaker A: It gotta make sense. [00:11:25] Speaker B: It gotta make sense and they gotta be okay with that. You know what I mean? Like, because that's still giving me, you know, a certain look and I'm not tied to them anymore. [00:11:34] Speaker A: That makes sense. [00:11:34] Speaker B: I'm saying that to say I wouldn't feel personal at all if it didn't make sense. Yeah, but if it did make sense, like, them niggas is like, bro, we see what's going on right now. [00:11:43] Speaker A: I love you and soul together. So I'm just. [00:11:45] Speaker B: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like, I would love to still. [00:11:47] Speaker A: I mean, I know. Flick it up is not your favorite. [00:11:49] Speaker B: Flick it up is. Flick it up is my. You don't want us grow. We don't gotta. We don't gotta go. [00:11:54] Speaker A: All right. [00:11:54] Speaker B: I far from flick it up. [00:11:56] Speaker A: Flick it up is. [00:11:57] Speaker B: Yeah, come on. But now. But, yeah, I would love to still make music with soul. Rock is somebody that, like, I've only gotten out one record with rock and. [00:12:03] Speaker A: We'Ve done, like, I remember you telling me rock was your favorite rock. [00:12:06] Speaker B: Yeah, you get. I'm saying so it's like, that's somebody that I would love to still make music with. Dolce is my dog. I would love to make me. So as long as it makes sense and they good with it, I'm good with it. And even if it don't make sense and they nothing good with it, which I'm not saying they're not, but if they're not, like it don't feel no way. Yeah. [00:12:20] Speaker A: Reason, ladies and gentlemen, Gina, anything? [00:12:23] Speaker C: Nah. Thank you. Thank you for pulling up on us. Thank you for blessing the show. It's a full circle moment. [00:12:28] Speaker B: I know. [00:12:28] Speaker A: I know. Gina's own, and, you know, she. Forget about us. [00:12:31] Speaker B: Gina, that's interview reason. You gotta understand, though, Gina been cracking since I met her. So it's like, this is, like, a normal thing for me to just kind of keep seeing for real. Like, all joke society keeps seeing you elevate and whatnot. Like, this is, like, a normal thing, so. And I want you all, like, involved in shit that I got coming up. Like I said, I got a lot of creative ideas and whatnot. And you seem to be like, now we can't say anything, like, from the west coast without you being there. So even if you just stand in the back and just hold up. Just hold up a sign, whatever the fuck, they know that it really is west. If you just. [00:13:02] Speaker A: Yeah, man. Thank you for coming through. Reason, God damn it. It's effective immediately. Gina views DJ head. Reason. Thank you, bro. [00:13:13] Speaker B: I appreciate y'all.
